400,000 foreigners to vote in local polls

UP to 400,000 non-nationals will be entitled to vote in next year's local and European elections, even though they cannot vote in general elections.

Under pressure to ensure all those entitled to vote are registered, the Government says it is planning a publicity campaign to get all potential voters onto the electoral lists ahead of next year's polls.

Next June's elections will also be the first time when every constituency in the country votes electronically and the use of the this system will be explained through a separate information campaign.
