Irish-style politicking prevails with agreement

IRISH-STYLE politics prevailed yesterday at the start of the summit of EU leaders in Brussels when Bertie Ahern won approval to finalise Europe’s constitution and agreed anti-terror measures.

However, Mr Ahern's acumen will be put to the test over the next 10 weeks as he tries to tie up the details of the Constitution and deliver it in time for the next summit in June.

The other main issue on yesterday's agenda was the declaration on combatting terrorism.
