Consumers will foot bill for truck levy, warn hauliers

IRISH consumers will end up paying for a new levy being imposed on trucks travelling through Germany, hauliers warned yesterday.

The 15-cent-per-kilometre charge will increase road haulage costs by 19%, the industry claimed.

Irish Road Haulage Association communications director Jimmy Quinn said yesterday: “We will be urging Mr Brennan to raise the matter with the EU’s council of transport ministers.”
