Radio licence awarding needs ‘more transparency’

GREATER transparency is needed in the awarding of radio licences and the cost of applying for a license needs to be reduced, according to a report by an Oireachtas watchdog committee.

But broadcasting chiefs angrily claimed last night they were snubbed by the Oireachtas Communications Committee’s examination of local radio licensing.

Committee chairman Noel O’Flynn rejected the allegations of the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI), stating his committee fully intends to talk with the organisation.
