School supervisors costing €1.2m a week

THE weekly bill for the contingency plan covering supervision and substitution at schools is €1.2 million

Figures released by the Department of Education show that €36 million was paid to supervisors for eight months cover last year.

The Joint Managerial Body, the management body for secondary schools, was forced to draw up a contingency plan to keep schools open after teachers refused to accept a pay deal.
