Street death highlights ‘scandalous’ homeless crisis

LEADING anti-poverty campaigner Fr Peter McVerry last night described Ireland’s ongoing homeless crisis as “scandalous” and “obscene”.

He was speaking following the death on Cork’s main street early yesterday of a woman who had been drinking on the streets.

Fr McVerry declined to comment on that incident but he said it highlighted the continued existence of homelessness and related poverty issues in Ireland.
