Hospital dispute in danger of rapid escalation, doctors warn

A DOCTORS' dispute which is disrupting non-emergency paediatric cases at Waterford Regional Hospital could escalate within days , the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) warned yesterday.

Eleven of the hospital’s 120 junior doctors yesterday refused to provide non-emergency paediatric cover in a work-to-rule over proposed rostering arrangements.

A spokesperson for the South Eastern Health Board said there was minimum disruption on the first day of the dispute. Junior doctors at the hospital are continuing to provide full emergency services.
