Putting up price of cigarettes has public support

A TOBACCO price hike that experts say would cut the number of smokers has the support of almost two thirds of the public.

And close to half of all smokers (46%) would support the doubling of cigarette prices to discourage the young from smoking.

The MRBI survey findings support the views of one of the world’s top tobacco experts, Professor Frank Chaloupka, who believes high prices are the most successful way to decrease the number of smokers and cut consumption.
