Waterford bemoans shortage of gardaí

WATERFORD has just one garda for almost every 500 people - compared to one officer per 300 citizens in Dublin.

The figures obtained by Fine Gael deputy John Deasy have prompted fresh political pressure for more gardaí to be allocated to the city.

A recent crime survey by Deputy Deasy showed that a majority of people in the Waterford area are living in fear of crime.
