Victory for Kinsale team in tight quiz race

THERE was no foregone conclusion in the early stages of last night’s TCH All-Ireland Schools Quiz at the Imperial Hotel, Cork.

The teams remained neck-and-neck until the very closing stages of the hotly contested competition.

Eventually, after the lead had changed a number of times, it was to be victory for Kinsale Community School, with 100 marks, over Christians Brothers, Cork, who ran them a tight second with 98 marks.

The Kinsale team consisted of Niall Flynn, Jack Coonan, Adrian Stanley, and Sinead Corcoran.

The second quiz No 135 was between Intermediate School, Killorglin and CBS Charleville. Killorglin took an early lead and held it to win by 96 marks to Charleville’s 78.

Quiz No 138 was between Christ King Secondary School, Cork and Ard Scoil Phobal Bantry, with Bantry being the victors with 94 points to 76.

The fourth quiz on the night, Quiz No 136, again was a very tight contest with both teams level at the end of the seventh round with Coachford College emerging as victors on 102 points over Presentation Brothers College, Cork who had 96.

The final quiz of the night, No 139, saw Coláiste an Spioraid Naoimh Cork emerge victors with 122 points over Coláiste na Tobhirite, Bandon, who had 98 points. Coláiste an Spioraid Naoimh had the highest score in any quiz on the night and would appear to be a team to be reckoned with in future rounds.
