Tall ships TV special to revive memories
Having provided extensive radio, television and online coverage of the event in the lead up to and during July 6-9, RTÉ is now set to rekindle fond memories of Waterford’s hosting of the Tall Ships’ Races 2005.
A special hour-long television programme will be screened on RTÉ One at 5pm on Monday, August 1.
The special programme by RTÉ news and current affairs will feature previously unseen footage and cover the arrival of the tall ships in Waterford, scenes during their time in port and the magnificent Parade of Sail on Saturday, July 9.
According to RTÉ south-east correspondent Damien Tiernan, the programme is being produced partly in response to the number of viewers who missed the special hour-long Nationwide on Friday, July 8, and a 30-minute highlights programme on the Parade of Sail that aired on the evening of July 9.
“We had a lot of feedback from people who would love to have seen those programmes but were unable to do so on what were hectic days in Waterford and the south-east with so much to see and do,” he said.
“The programme on August 1 will allow people a fresh opportunity to recall some very special days indeed and is likely to attract a considerable audience from among the hundreds of thousands who visited Waterford over the four days and others who weren’t fortunate enough to be here. The programme will also be part of the event’s legacy and act as an excellent record for this and future generations to enjoy.”
