Trevor novel wins €10,000 award
“It’s a wave back to my background. I lived in seven provincial Irish towns,” said the delighted Mr Trevor, 75, who took the prize for his novel, The Story of Lucy Gault. The winner of numerous awards, including the Whitbread Prize and an honorary CBE, he said that being short-listed was not the most pleasant of experiences.
“You could say it’s a bit of a lottery really. The right three lemons came up on the fruit machine,” he joked. Others short-listed for the award, presented by Kerry Group corporate affairs director Frank Hayes, were John Banville, Colum McCann, Jennifer Jonston and Keith Ridgeway.
