Work to begin on school bus seat belts

WORK is due to begin within days to fit all Bus Éireann school buses with seat belts and should be completed this summer.

Work to begin on school bus seat belts

The development has emerged as the company prepares to appear in court today on charges relating to last May’s school bus crash which claimed the lives of five Co Meath schoolgirls.

Following the tragedy, Education Minister Mary Hanafin and Minister of State Síle de Valera promised that all buses operating under the school transport system would be fitted with seat belts and that three-for-two seating arrangements would be phased out by the end of this year.
