Eminem raps up downloads as callers ring changes
It might be Lose Yourself by Eminem, Unbreakable by Westlife of even the theme from the Muppets.
Whatever it is, it’s big business for companies anxious to get you to download the latest hip tune at a cost of between 1.27 and 1.90 a minute from their websites.
Some people, mostly the young and young at heart, are now changing their ring tones every week, at a cost of 2.50 each time.
The chart-conscious try to match the pop charts as they become available. According to Dialaring.com Eminem has left the competition way behind by taking both the number one slot with Lose Yourself while in number two is The Real Slim Shady.
In fourth place, just under the theme from Rocky, is the Fields of Athenry and those wanting a patriotic ring have put the Irish National Anthem in fifth position.
Austin Powers, Family Portrait, Friends, Top Gun and the Simpsons themes, follow in close pursuit.
There are now many websites offering an opportunity to download ring tones, pictures and logos.
One such website, Boltblue, which reviewed internet downloads over the past two years, found the theme from Mission Impossible is the most popular.
In second place was Can’t Get you Out of My Head by Kylie Minogue and coming in third was It Wasn’t Me by Shaggy.
The theme from Beverly Hills Cop was in seventh position while Mike Odfield’s Tubular Bells was ranked ninth. At number 10 was Hey Baby by DJ Otiz.
