CONSUMERS and businesses were yesterday being urged to take simple steps to cut down on the 500 million litres of water used every day in the Dublin region.

Environment Minister Dick Roche launched the Tap Tips campaign ahead of Water Awareness week which begins next Monday to encourage people to conserve water.

On average, people use 150 litres of water per day and cutting down on that amount by 10 litres would save 13 million litres in the Dublin region each day, organisers of the campaign said.
