Speed limit confusion ‘will lead to more accidents’

INADEQUATE preparations for the introduction of metric speed limits from next year will result in more road accidents, it was claimed yesterday.

Speaking as the Government’s Road Traffic Bill was presented to the Dáil yesterday, Labour transport spokesperson Róisín Shortall said the delay by the Government in putting an information campaign in place would inevitably result in unnecessary confusion and additional accidents.

“There is no doubt the changeover is going to lead to increased accidents on the roads.
