DAMIEN ENRIGHT was pleasantly surprised at the reaction to the first instalment of his new RTE series, which explores issues from rural Ireland.

An admirable 26% of viewers last Wednesday tuned in to the first programme in the series, Enright’s Way, which was directed by David Bickley.

“It’s hopefully useful TV, with a focus on national/rural issues,” Mr Enright said of the series, which last week investigated the disappearance of Ireland’s national monuments at a rate of 1,500 annually.
