Snow business at Christmas on Ice

The organisers revealed over 60,000 tickets were pre-booked for the cool experience of 7UP Christmas on Ice which opened yesterday.

Children’s favourite Dustin the Turkey yesterday welcomed Santa to the RDS venue amid an ear-splitting roar from hundreds of children.

Fire-eaters, face painters, the Capella Choir and the Rockettes Ice-Skating performers added to the fun.

The ISPCC benefited from the official opening and a donation of one euro will be made to the charity with every booking between November 22-26. The spectacular event continues until January 9.

After the switching on of Christmas lights on a towering tree, Santa was led through the winter wonderland in an exciting and colourful procession to his magical ice emporium, Santa’s Polar Palace, where he met and chatted with hundreds of children.

After meeting Santa, his polar palace guards escorted everyone around a play area featuring the disco dome, the penguin bounce, ice obstacle course, winter slide and junior play areas.

Meanwhile, beneath a floodlit canopy, a 40ft Christmas tree is surrounded by a sea of real ice where skaters can glide to all the sounds of the season.

For the more fainthearted, heated, rink-side terrace areas - with a connecting cocktail bar and Ice café - provide a sanctuary to cheer on family and friends.

With over 5000 sq metres of festive fun, organisers said the Christmas experience had something for everyone.

The Christmas village encompasses the bear factory, game zone and weekend Christmas markets selling affordable Kris-Kindle gifts, decorations and Christmas treats.

As part of the fundraising venture to benefit ISPCC, holly days and Dustin the Turkey badges will be on sale.

On-line booking at www.7upchristmasonice.ie with tickets starting from €7.
