CHILDREN’S charity Barnardos yesterday said it is aiming to transform Ireland into “the best place in the world to be a child”.

However, official statistics show poverty affects one-in-seven children in Ireland - a record that ranks it among Europe’s worst for child service provision.

Barnardos announced it will lead a campaign to give children rights. A new advocacy unit will encourage the political community and the public to face up to the problems encountered daily by Ireland’s youngest citizens.
