ALMOST 90% of street crime is alcohol-related, according to a new garda study.

Research carried out in a Dublin garda station showed 98 of 113 public order offences recorded on an average week were linked with alcohol.

The report said there had been a 300% increase in convictions for public drunkenness nationally between 1996 and 2001.
