COMMUTERS would end their road-clogging love affair with the car if only a bus or tram came by to sweep them off their feet.

Most motorists say they would happily switch allegiance from private to public transport if they could, but say the option would leave them sore of foot and late for work.

A survey found those questioned stick to their own wheels because they would have to walk on average 20 minutes to their nearest bus stop and then face a journey twice as long as a car trip.
