One smoke ‘can get children hooked’

JUST one cigarette is enough to create an addiction to smoking in children, researchers said yesterday.

Studying children aged between 12 and 13, scientists at the University of Massachusetts found that 40% of those who had ever smoked showed signs of addiction.

Among the children who said they had inhaled the addiction rate was 53%, according to the research published in the Tobacco Control Journal.
