Weapons cache is uncovered in prison

PRISON officers averted a mass behind-bars brawl after searches revealed a frightening array of weapons ready to be used by two feuding gangs.

Iron bars, hacksaws and home-made knives were uncovered during searches in Clover Hill remand prison early yesterday morning.

Prison insiders believe they were ready to be used in a fight between a Traveller gang and a group from North Dublin. There has been tension between the two sides for some weeks.
