McDowell to accept 200 'UN' refugees

IRELAND should concentrate on taking UN nominated refugees in future and has agreed to take 200 from different regions around the world in the coming months, Justice Minister Michael McDowell has announced.

He was attending an EU meeting of Justice Ministers in Vienna where a raft of measures aimed at controlling the influx of refugees to Europe was discussed.

Ireland is likely to avail of special flights, coordinated and funded by the European commission, when returning failed refugees to their countries of origin, according to the minister.
