THE Northern peace process is in the grips of a “very deep sense of crisis”, Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams warned yesterday.

It was a day when the row between the Government and Sinn Féin intensified with Mr Adams accusing Taoiseach Bertie Ahern of attacking his party in order to divert attention from the jailing this week of tax crook Ray Burke.

Speaking in London on the eve of his meeting with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, the Sinn Féin president said Bertie Ahern had “cleverly defused the Ray Burke affair by opening up a full frontal attack on Sinn Féin”.
