Gardaí make door-to-door enquiries after alleged rape
A woman made a complaint to gardaí that she was the victim of a sexual assault in Macroom town on Saturday night.
Gardaí said last night that investigations are continuing. They disclosed that parts of New Street were forensically examined yesterday.
Meanwhile, gardaí in east Cork were still hunting last night for a gang who burgled a number of premises early yesterday morning.
A pub in Cloyne was targeted by the gang who were travelling in a stolen BMW which they later abandoned a short distance away.
Gardaí were on the scene within minutes but the gang had fled.
They targeted another premises later. Gardaí later found a stolen Ford Mondeo, which they believe may be linked to the raids, abandoned in the Garryvoe area.
Both cars and crime scenes have been forensically examined, a garda spokesperson said.
It will be a number of days before the full extent of the burglaries is known, a garda spokesperson said.
The Garryvoe area was packed with holidaymakers over the weekend.
And the spokesperson said a large crowd had attended a wedding reception in the Garryvoe Hotel on Saturday night.
A garda spokesperson said “We would appeal to anyone in the Cloyne or Garryvoe areas, especially those who were at the wedding reception, and who saw anything unusual between the hours of 12.30am and 4am to contact Midleton gardaí on 021-4631324.”
