Bono joins Hendrix in fantasy band

HE already fronts one of the world’s biggest bands but music buffs think Bono has what it takes to front the greatest ever rock line-up.

In this ultimate fantasy band, the U2 superstar should be accompanied by two of the rock world's late wildmen guitarist Jimi Hendrix and drummer Keith Moon.

Bizarrely, the poll by BBC radio station 6 Music, finds that Happy Mondays spare part Bez would also be an asset to the ultimate band.

Bez real name Mark Berry was the Mondays' and Black Grape's on-stage dancer, but his lack of musical input did not deter the digital station's listeners.

Red Hot Chili Peppers star Flea was chosen as the best bass player for the unnamed group.

Votes from 21,000 listeners to the digital station were used to compile the band, which is completed by Coldplay's Chris Martin on keyboards.

Martin has showcased his piano abilities on chart hit The Scientist and on forthcoming single Clocks.

The fantasy line-up was drawn up, after three weeks of voting, to mark the station's first birthday.

Between them the musicians and Bez can claim to have scored more than 50 top 10 hits with their bands.
