EMBATTLED Environment Minister Martin Cullen is facing an onslaught of intense criticism this morning, with mounting calls for his resignation over his stewardship of electronic voting.

As the Government yesterday reacted to the findings of the Commission on Electronic Voting by dramatically abandoning electronic voting for June’s local and European elections, Mr Cullen continued to defend his handling of the system.

“I gave it the leadership and the responsibility that was needed for this system. I believe that electronic voting is very much part of the future,” he said.
