Dream sports auctions set to raise vital cancer funds

VIP packages which will allow two people enjoy the top two sporting events in the world this year are to be auctioned in aid of the South Eastern Cancer Foundation.

Sponsored by Waterford Crystal, they are likely to attract international interest when they go under the hammer at the forthcoming Waterford Mayors’ Ball.

The first package includes two tickets for the international pavilion at the K-Club for the Ryder Cup from September 22 to 24.

The package also includes five nights accommodation at the five-star Berkeley Court Hotel in Dublin and transport to and from the K-Club in Co Kildare.

Also due to go under the hammer at the Mayor’s Ball on April 1 is a package for two people to attend the World Cup Final on July 9 in Berlin.

Flights have been donated by Harvey Travel, while the Tower Hotel Group will provide hotel accommodation. The FAI has sponsored the match tickets.

Additional auction items include a Waterford Crystal magnificent centrepiece valued at almost €5,000.

Mayor of Waterford, Cllr Hilary Quinlan, said they were likely to prompt huge interest from sports lovers.

“Sports events don’t come much more attractive than the Ryder Cup and World Cup.

“We intend to place the items on the eBay auction website for the four weeks up to the Mayor’s Ball on April 1, while we will also accept written bids in advance at City Hall.”

* Information about the Ball and auction items is available from the Mayor’s Office at Waterford City Hall on (051) 309900 or mayor@waterfordcity.ie.
