Cardinal Connell warns against budget cut-backs targeting the poor

CARDINAL Desmond Connell yesterday warned the Government against targeting the poor in budget cut-backs.

The number of people without homes is increasing in spite of the economic boom of recent years, he said.

Speaking at the launch of the Crosscare annual report, Cardinal Connell said the agency, which provides social services in Dublin, has opened a second shelter for the homeless and now provides almost 175,000 meals a year.
