ROGUE farmers could be heavily involved in a cross-Border waste dumping scam inflicting millions of pounds worth of damage to the North’s environment, it emerged yesterday.

As police sent three lorry loads back to the south, a senior organised crime detective criticised the landowners providing sites for the gangs running the developing racket.

Chief Inspector Esmond Adair said yesterday: “Somebody has to allow them to dump this illegal waste on their land. I’m not saying it’s all farmers but certainly landowners.”
