Big designs for the big day at bridal awards

WITH thousands of couples newly engaged over Christmas and the New Year, there will be a rush of flushed wannabe Bridezillas dying to feast their eyes on this year’s contenders for the Bridal Designer of the Year Awards.

Big designs for the big day at bridal awards

Whether you see yourself as an Audrey Hepburn type, in the mould of Grace Kelly or as the ultimate urban princess, there is plenty to inspire even the most reticent bride-to-be.

According to the organisers, “traditional elegance, stunning simplicity and alternative designs” will all be on display at the awards later this month.

Miss Ireland Aoife Cogan and an array of Irish models wore the latest bridal creations yesterday which range from the dreamily romantic to cool chic.

There were beaded lace fishtail skirts by Kathy de Stafford while Fiona Todhunter’s black and white silk and chiffon dress was classic but modern.

There was little sign of the veil at yesterday’s photo shoot, with brides choosing headpieces and flowing locks instead.

Brides who have a penchant for the earthy, spiritual look will love Jacinta Caraher’s hand-painted gown with its purple velvet coat - very Liv Tyler in The Lord of the Rings.

Meanwhile, Jen Doherty’s beautifully cut winter white dress with gala jacket is modern, elegant and understated sophistication at its best.

The Irish Brides Bridal Designer of the Year Awards are always a big industry bash and this year looks likely to be the same as the vogue for weddings seems to be ever increasing.

Up to 800 people are expected to attend the awards show at Jurys Hotel, Ballsbridge, Dublin, on January 20 with all proceeds going to the Dublin Simon Community.
