WOMEN who had their wombs removed unnecessarily were reassured by Health Minister Micheál Martin that the State’s inquiry would get the support it needed to expose the scandal.

Judge Maureen Harding Clarke, who is chairing the inquiry into operations performed by Dr Michael Neary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, is currently examining a massive amount of documentation from the hospital, local health board, Medical Council and other agencies.

Mr Martin told Patient Focus, which represents 130 patients of Dr Neary, that Judge Harding Clarke had been instructed to come back to him if there was a problem with ordering witnesses and documents.
