Penalty points for dangerous overtaking and light-breaking

DRIVERS who break traffic lights and overtake dangerously are to face penalty points under an extension of the system, Transport Minister Martin Cullen said yesterday.

The roll-out of penalty points has been seriously delayed by the lack of a central computer system, with just three of the planned 69 offences in place.

Mr Cullen said he had been assured that the necessary support framework would be in place by next April.
