THE Government is being urged to use its influence to push for UN peacekeeping troops in Sudan’s stricken Darfur region.

GOAL’s John O’Shea made the plea after a UN Security Council deadline imposed on the Sudanese government passed on Monday. Aid agencies and UN officials in Darfur are adamant the authorities have failed to stop violence by Government-sponsored militias.

The UN will now decide tomorrow what form of action - if any - to take.
