Someone should have warned me about Burke, says Ahern

TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern yesterday said that those who knew about Ray Burke’s involvement in corruption ought to have told him about it.

Responding to criticism from Socialist Party TD Joe Higgins over the disgraced ex-minister’s appointment to Cabinet to 1997, Mr Ahern defended his actions, saying he had not been alerted to any corruption.

Accusing Mr Ahern of being the former party fixer and the runner for former Taoiseach Charlie Haughey, Mr Higgins said nobody believes the Taoiseach did not know what was going on in the past.
