Darfur Appeal: You can help end the suffering
The crisis first flared 18 months ago when rebel groups in Darfur began fighting government troops.
In response government-armed Arab militia fighters, known as Janjaweed, have inflicted a reign of terror in the region, burning and looting villages. The Sudanese Government, which continues to deny arming the Janjaweed, faces UN-backed sanctions if it does not disarm the militia before the end of the month.
