EXTRA security measures put in place at Dublin Airport this week following a negative EU safety review are to become a permanent feature for air travellers.

A spokesperson for Dublin Airport said yesterday that additional checks, such as the requirement to place shoes through a scanning machine, were likely to remain in place for the foreseeable future.

Aviation sources confirmed that security at Cork and Shannon airports has also been reviewed within the past few days after it emerged that a team of European Commission aviation inspectors managed to evade detection while carrying a replica bomb and knives through security checks at Dublin Airport.
