FF will suffer losses but will not be battered, says Ahern

TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern yesterday conceded that Fianna Fáil is going to suffer losses in the upcoming elections but he denied that the party would take a “battering”.

FF will suffer losses but will not be battered, says Ahern

Mr Ahern was responding to the latest opinion poll, which found that Fianna Fáil was in danger of losing up to 100 seats in the local elections.

The Sunday Business Post/Red C opinion poll also found that Fianna Fáil was likely to take a hit in the European elections, with their chances of winning two seats in the South and North West diminishing as the independents gain ground. While the poll showed that support for Fianna Fáil in the local elections was at 29% down three points on last month's poll it was not all bad news for the Government.
