Nursing home inspections ‘ridiculous’

MINISTER for Older People Seán Power admitted yesterday that the inspections of nursing homes are “ridiculous” — especially the advance warning given to private nursing homes.

Mr Power said he was shocked by the treatment of nursing home patients revealed in the Prime Time Investigates programme and would be demanding immediate action from the Health Service Executive.

The minister is also asking the gardaí to investigate the shocking mistreatment of elderly residents inside Leas Cross private nursing home in Swords, Co Dublin, where the annual charge is €45,000 a year.
