PLANS to combat traffic congestion in Dublin descended into farce yesterday when Transport Minister Seamus Brennan ordered that a plan for new traffic signs be halted.

This follows widespread confusion over new street signs aimed at directing traffic away from the city centre and onto so-called orbital routes around the city.

Minister Brennan has asked Dublin City Council to go back to the drawing board and consider designing simpler road signs. The decision to scrap the signs will cost tax payers ten of thousands of euro.
