New computer system to trace missing persons

A SOPHISTICATED computer system now in use by gardaí may help trace missing persons.

The system allows detectives to analyse large amounts of information about serious crime, throwing up possible links or patterns.

ViCLAS (Violent Crime Linkage Analysis System) can check modus operandi, locations, type of wounds, weapon used, the victim’s age and offender profile.
