COLLEGES will receive up to one third extra funding for each student they register from minority groups.

A confidential document, circulated by the Higher Education Authority (HEA), sets out this idea and suggests methods to keep better records of numbers with a disability, mature students and those from socio-economic or culturally disadvantaged backgrounds.

Despite efforts by colleges to attract more students from these groups and offer them better supports, the HEA’s access equity office last month said more must be done.
