EMPLOYERS group IBEC has called on the Government to press ahead with investment in developing science education after a teachers’ union lifted its ban on a new Junior Certificate syllabus.

The ban was withdrawn on Tuesday after the ASTI was found to be in breach of a social partnership agreement, a move welcomed by ICT Ireland, the IBEC body representing the hi-tech sector.

ICT Ireland said it is now time to implement the recommendations of last year’s report by the Task Force on Physical Science, including the upgrading of school labs and recruitment of school laboratory assistants.
