Lotto win for Liz Taylor
Elizabeth scooped the €3.1 million jackpot in last Wednesday’s draw although she only discovered her win on Friday, and it was yesterday before she could enjoy the feel of good fortune when she was handed the megacheque.
Unlike the movie queen who shares her name, however, level-headed Elizabeth isn’t likely to be seen disappearing in a swirl of fur coat and cloud of dust from the double exhaust of a stretch limo.
Originally from Kilmanagh, Co Kilkenny, but living in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in England, Elizabeth manages a special home for people with disabilities and that was foremost on her mind on her flying visit to National Lottery headquarters in Dublin.
“I’m over the moon about the win as I only found out last Friday and came over as soon as I could,” she said.
“But I’m heading back to the UK on Friday as I have a responsible job, which I need to return to as soon as possible.”
Elizabeth was helped with sipping the obligatory champagne at yesterday’s celebration by her husband, Timothy, and her mum.
The simple virtues of loyalty and closeness within her family circle were central to Liz’s win.
The lucky docket, a €12 multi-draw ticket, was bought on her behalf by a member of her family at their local newsagent, Kerwick’s in Lower Green Street, Callan, Co Kilkenny.
Elizabeth wasn’t the only lotto player celebrating yesterday.
An 18-year-old apprentice electrician collected a cheque for €200,000 which he won in the Lottoplus 2 draw with a €3 Quick Pick ticket he almost lost.
“My ticket fell out of my pocket on a building site but I spotted it and picked it up,” said the anonymous football fan.
“I asked my Dad that night to check the ticket for me as I was going to football training.
“He did and rang me to come home immediately.”
