Polish man dies in crash

A POLISH worker died from injuries he received in a road accident near Newcastle West on Monday evening.

He has been named as Damian Zimowski, aged 28.

His wife was travelling from Poland last night.

Mr Zimowski worked with a company in Shannon and lived in Raheen in Limerick city. He was travelling in a van which was in collision with a lorry at a place known as Cregan’s Cross, on the Newcastle West/Rathkeale road. The accident happened at 6.15pm. Firemen from Newcastle West cut the man from the wreckage. He died later in the Mid-Western Regional Hospital.

Supt Tom Gavin, Newcastle West, urged witnesses or anyone who was travelling near the scene to contact them on 069 20650.
