LABOUR called on Environment Minister Martin Cullen yesterday to explain how he could build 500 social houses next year for just €66,000 each.

The minister said he will provide an extra €33 million for local authority and social housing that will produce this number of extra social houses, Labour environment spokesman Eamon Gilmore said.

"How does he explain to the public and the building industry how each house and the cost of the site on which it is built will be paid for with €66,000," asked Mr Gilmore.
