Man gets 60 days for ‘brutal assault’ on ex-partner

A MAN was jailed yesterday for 60 days for what his own solicitor acknowledged was a brutal assault on his estranged girlfriend and mother of his young child.

Youghal District Court heard yesterday that just two months after being bound to the peace for five years, William Roche, aged 24, slapped and punched his victim in the face, dragged her by the hair and spat chicken into her face.

Roche, of 71 Sarsfield’s Terrace, Youghal, pleaded guilty to assaulting Tara Butler at South Main Street in the early hours of May 26 last.
