THE Government's radical drive to provide houses in private estates for those on lower incomes was branded a failure last night.

New figures show that most councils have acquired absolutely no social and affordable houses under the much-vaunted initiative to supply cheaper housing.

Only 315 of these houses have been provided under the controversial Part V of the Planning and Development Act.
