Alzheimer Society call for upgrade of services

THE Alzheimer Society of Ireland urges the Government urgently to upgrade services for sufferers of the disease. The group made the call following the publication of two surveys that examined the needs of Alzheimer sufferers before World Alzheimer Day on September 21.

The surveys found, that while the disease has increased by 6% in the last three years, almost 70% of people know little or nothing about Alzheimer dementia.

Some 80% of doctors believe that just two out of every 10 sufferers come forward early enough for diagnosis.
